Boutique Medical Practices Are Booming!

Concierge medicine, or boutique medical practices are booming, a 2012 survey by the American Academy of Private Physicians reported that there were 4,400 concierge doctors in the United States, which was a 30 percent increase from the previous year. What is the reason? (published site)

Healthcare in the US is undergoing tremendous change affecting health insurance, hospitals, clinics, specialists, your primary care physician and patients themselves. With health insurance companies under pressure to hold down rising costs, they are cutting reimbursements for doctors. This has resulted in doctors having to see more patients per day, thus increasing wait times and reducing time spent with each patient.

Frustrated with this “assembly line” approach to health care many doctors are turning to practice models that allow them to see fewer patients, spend more time with each patients for a fee.

Often called boutique medicine or a concierge practice, most forms of this practice model offers patients who subscribe and pay an additional monthly, or annual fee or retainer, access to premium services, including quicker scheduling, more time with the doctor, online consultations, and sometimes the ability to email or text the physician.
While “concierge” medicine practices vary, they usually feature some form of special services for wealthy people who can afford the additional costs ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 per year.

Not in our practice, here our emphasis is on providing a personalized approach to each patient’s needs in a partnership with a specialized physical therapy and rehabilitation center as well as connections with the excellent hospitals in the county in a seamless continuum of care. Our philosophy is to provide each patient with the information about your diagnosis and treatment options that are responsive to your individual needs and preferences.

Consulting with a surgeon does not necessarily mean you will need surgery to feel better. We take the extra time to explain your condition and thoroughly discuss all the treatment options including the non-surgical treatments. Our goal is to provide you with the optimal long-term outcome that meets your needs and preferences.

We provide an education center and blog on our website to allow you to extend the clinic visit to learn about your condition in the comfort of your own home and at your own pace. I’m always willing to hear your concerns and answer questions. In short, we offer all the features of concierge care for each of our patients without the additional cost.
